Urbanization Aggravates Effects of Global Warming on Local Atmospheric Drying

نویسندگان

چکیده

Urbanization is known to cause ‘Urban Heat Island’ (UHI) and elevate storm runoff. However, how urbanization influences local atmospheric moisture under global warming not well-understood. By examining 140 paired urban-rural weather station data (1980–2018), this study finds significant declines in humidity or the Dry (UDI) multiple large city clusters across a climatic gradient China. Global warming, UHI, reduction evapotranspiration water vapor supplies all contribute observed UDI. The magnitude frequency of UDI are more pronounced humid regions than arid due differences background climate vegetation characteristics that affect both energy balances at land surfaces. Mitigating negative effects UHI should focus on restoring power urban ecosystems. present empirical analyses provide new evidence mechanistic understanding environmental change

Global warming and 21 century drying

Global warming is expected to increase the frequency and intensity of droughts in the twenty-first century, but the relative contributions from changes in moisture supply (precipitation) versus evaporative demand (potential evapotranspiration; PET) have not been comprehensively assessed. Using output from a suite of general circulation model (GCM) simulations from phase 5 of the Coupled Model I...

Global warming-accelerated drying in the tropics.

Many regions of the subtropical and tropical continents such as southern Amazonia, Australia, and the southwestern and central United States, have repeatedly experienced extreme droughts over the past few decades, and accompanied by an increasing wetness over the equatorial regions. These phenomena seems to be consistent with an apparent intensified and poleward expansion of the tropical meridi...

global warming and atmospheric thickness of the lower half

most scientists believe that the phenomenon of global warming occurred, however, in the case of the occurrence of this phenomenon by some environmental scientists have raised doubts. they are questioning global warming by arguing that the temperature recorded at the weather stations cannot be representative of the occurrence of the temperature rise. because with the passage of time and the incr...

Atmospheric hypotheses’ of Earth’s global warming

Two hypotheses are presented, outlining a new cause for global warming. We propose that the crucial factor in global warming is the amount and position of water vapour through the atmosphere. The purpose of this report is to open the debate and to encourage discussion among scientists. When analyzing the mean-year trend of the Earth’s surface temperature for the past 140 years (see for Fig. 1(a...
